Natural Health Cures You Have at Home

Staying well and fighting off illnesses does not have to be expensive. In fact, everything you need to stay healthy naturally can be found in things you probably already keep stocked in your home. Many people think that all they need to get better is to go to the store, buy some medication and hooray! The impending flu has been foiled! So much time is wasted trying to decide between all of the over the counter medicines that are available when you could start healing immediately by choosing one of the many natural remedies already sitting in your cabinets.

Start with water. Everybody knows they need between six and eight glasses of water each day but you can use water as more than something to quench your thirst. When you have a headache, try drinking some water instead of heading for the aspirin or Advil bottle. Dehydration is often the cause of headaches. Instead of waiting a long time for the drugs to take effect, drinking a glass of water will help you feel better in just a few minutes. While water is great for hydration it is great for other things too. Hot baths, for example, are great for helping people break fevers (just remember to keep a cold compress on your head so you don't get dangerously overheated). The heat helps you start sweating (to break your fever) and helps your muscles relax. Sweating is good because it is how your body will get rid of the toxins causing the fever and bring your temperature down. Using salve is a great natural remedy. Whether you have sinus issues or chest congestion, salve is a great help. The herbs, spices, and other plants that are used in natural salves can help you fight off your cold or flu, break up your congestion and can even bring down a fever. While it is technically an over the counter item, Vicks vaporub is a fantastic salve with many healing and soothing properties. Salves work best when smeared onto the chest but they can also be dabbed under the nose or rubbed into the soles of your feet.

Many natural health enthusiasts swear by Echinacea. The trick to ensuring the success of Echinacea it's important that you take the supplement as soon as you begin to feel sick. One or two supplements of Echinacea, when taken early on, could have the power to completely stop the cold from affecting you. Don't worry if you're in the middle of your cold, you can still take some Echinacea-it will help your cold heal faster and can give you some relief from your symptoms. In order to cure your cold you will need to take about 1200 mgs of Echinacea a day. Don't try to take all 1200 mgs at once; in order to get the right dosage take 400mgs three times a day. Herbal remedies and natural help can be wonderful ways to combat the common cold and flu. Why force yourself to ingest a bunch of drugs if there are better methods of healing? Don't reach for the drugs out of habit-choose a healthier method instead. Don't forget to give yourself permission to rest up otherwise nothing you do will help you get better.
